This is the list that we will be referring to - (which will be conveyed to you on post by post basis).

Learning 2.0 is an online self-discovery program that encourages library professionals and other employees to dive right in to new technologies, specifically Web 2.0 tools (blogs, wikis, podcasts, online applications, etc.), and rewards them for completing 23 “Things” (or small exercises) on their own. It’s based on “43 Things You (or I) Might Want to Do This Year,” an article written by Stephen Abram (Information Outlook, February 2005). The program is built on the idea that participants learn best when they’re engaged in their own learning and are motivated to learn."

Beginning ... the first step into the Learning 2.0 Zone

This process will help us all become very familiar with online platforms used for blogging, photos, videos, RSS & news readers, tagging, wikis, podcasting, and online applications.

You will be visiting and saving information onto many online sites devoted to these applications and using your own blog as a base camp as a record for all of this information. We will be visiting each other's blogs and communicating openly.

Instructions on what you will be doing week to week will be provided by posts on this blog. I will advise you by email when there is a new post.

I will refer you to various other blogs and websites for reference information and activities.

The main blog that you will be referring to is called 23 Things which is a blog set up by The Public Library of Charlotte and Mecklenburg Community (PLCMC) as the basis of their staff development program.

You will be assigned a task to do from the 23 Things blog, however we will not necessarily be following any particular numerical order on this blog.

PRIVACY
All the blogs and information that you set up WILL BE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC on the Internet. Therefore, you don't have to use your real name if you don't want to. For example: you may have a pet name that you can use when setting up each of the online programs as your user name. Don't put any personal information online such as your name, phone number, etc.

There will be a list set up with your real name and your user name available on the Library Team Share, so that we know who we're talking to and sharing with. There will be no list online.

What is this blog all about?

New online technology, now known as Web 2.0, is becoming more and more prevalent in society. The Internet is now changing on a daily basis with more programs available online for a variety of purposes. Thus, we must ensure that our skills and knowledge are on the level of a user. This leads us into Learning 2.0 --- the ability to learn about the new vital platforms available online. This blog is to help us all on our journey into the online world of Web 2.0.

At the TAFE NSW Library Conference (2/2/07), and at the Information Online 2007 Conference (30/1-1/2/07) there were discussions and papers presented on the future of libraries and the Internet and focussing on Web 2.0 and Learning 2.0.

One of the presenters at the Information Online 2007 Conference was Christine Mackenzie from Yarra Plenty Regional Library. Christine also wrote an interesting article that was in the December 2006 issue of Incite called "Skilling staff for Library 2.0" http://www.alia.org.au/publishing/incite/2006/12/print.html?ID=145
